Peru students to pursue higher studies in France thanks to Govt-run program

A total of 83 students were granted access to the benefits offered by the 'Beca 18 International Excelencia', it was announced.

Beca 18, created during the current administration led by President Ollanta Humala, is a program designed to grant scholarships to oustanding Peruvian students. The fellowships are required to pursue higher studies at top universities in the country and overseas.

The said scholars come from 15 regions, such as: Ancash, Arequipa, Cajamarca, Callao, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huanuco, Junin, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Moquegua, Piura, Puno and Tacna.

On August 7 grantees will receive the credentials, which will recognize them as beneficiaries of the said program.

It must be noted the youngsters went through a cultural and linguistic training stage at the Lima-based Alliance Francaise. After having successfully passed the international DELF B1 Level examination, they were granted the scholarships. Thus, youngsters will be allowed to pursue higher studies at French universities starting September.

The event will be presided over by officials of the Education Ministry, French Embassy in Lima and the Alliance Francaise.

According to the organizers, the concluding ceremony and the farewell to the grantees will be headed by Education Minister Jaime Saavedra and French Ambassador to Peru Fabrice Mauries.
