Lima's streets and avenues looked almost empty on Sunday morning following the order implemented for the 2017 National Census.

Said initiative prevented citizens from moving across the city to avoid any mistakes in the corresponding registration process.

Lima's main avenues such as Javier Prado, Canada, Iquitos, Alfonso Ugarte and Grau, among others, were almost "deserted" with very few private vehicles circulating on roads.

Likewise, wholesalers, retailers and other stores remain closed until 5:00 PM (local time).

There were neither public transportation vehicles, nor religious services available until the early evening.

National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) Head Anibal Sanchez informed the census' first results will be ready in 3 months, and the complete report will be released in 6 months.

He also estimated that more than 31 million Peruvians would be censused on the occasion. Rural zones will be registered between October 23 and November 5.

As is known, Peru's 2017 National Census —for the first time— included a self-identification question to be answered by all citizens.
