Sixteen months before the end of his administration, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala reaffirmed the government is still focused on growth and social inclusion to reduce inequalities across the country.
“The priority remains the same: social inclusion,” he said in a conference in the presence of foreign media at the Government Palace, in Lima.
Mr. Humala stressed that from the very beginning he was sure about the fact that, in order to achieve the objective of development, it was necessary to adopt a social policy capable of promoting opportunities through assembled programs.
He said even though economic growth is an important indicator, it is not as essential as social inclusion and reduction of inequality.
“Social inclusion aims to reduce inequality gaps […] let’s worry about inclusion, because it is what will create growth,” he commented to journalists.
According to the Peruvian leader, this is why he decided to create the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis), in charge of implementing the government’s social policy.
