Peruvian fresh mango shipments to South Korea have kicked off.
In November, this Asian nation opened up its market to the Inca country thanks to efforts undertaken by the Peruvian Irrigation and Agriculture Ministry (Minagri) through dependent National Service for Agricultural Sanitation (Senasa) bureau.
The said fruit exports totaled 108,000 tonnes during the 2014-2015 season. The figure is expected to increase.
Asia's most important economies —such as Japan, China and South Korea— are already importing the national good thanks to Senasa's commitment aimed to protect farming products from pests.
First containers will depart from Piura region's Paita province. It must be noted Piura, Ancash and Lambayeque are considered top mango-producing regions in the country.
Agro-exports
On the other hand, Minister Juan Manuel Benites expressed his portfolio-implemented policy is aimed at enabling agro-exports to exceed US$6.00 billion by the end of 2016 driven by foreign sales of coffee, quinoa, asparagus, avocados, grapes and mangoes, among others.
At the same time, he reminded access —for the aforementioned fruit into the Korean market— was concretized following three years of technical efforts undertaken by Senasa and Korea's Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (QIA).
By the end of 2015, the said product was exported to nearly 30 countries. United States, England, Canada, Germany, Netherlands stood out as main market targets.
