Economy and Finance Minister Alonso Segura on Thursday assured Peru’s social programs are technically handled based on ISO 9001 International Standard certification, which backs the quality of their procedures.

“Every [social] program has been technically handled with ISO 9001, and several are aligned with it. Many of them have been awarded international recognition, given their serious implementation,” he underlined.

Emphasis has been placed on moving people from assistance programs to productive ones, and Juntos program —a conditional cash transfer program run by the Peruvian government— has been enhanced.

“We are working on graduation programs, and that’s what Haku Wiñay is all about, a program intended to develop productive skills,” he explained.

He also stressed the substantial budget allocated for the Development and Social Inclusion Ministry (Midis) to protect the poorest population and, therefore, achieve equitable growth through inclusion.

“Midis budget accounts for 0.6% of GDP, and if we talk about social programs, they make up 2.7%,” he told TV Peru.

Social programs, as well as education and health, are part of a number of reforms that aim to equip people with higher productive skills in the future, so that social programs are not required any more.
