The Government of Peru extended its solidarity and deep condolences to the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and, through it, to families and loved ones of the casualties of the terrorist attack that struck Munich on Friday.

In a release, the Chancellery indicated Peru reaffirms its firm rejection of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations as a phenomenon that targets life, integrity and security of people.

It also reiterates its constant and firm commitment to peace and full respect to human rights.

The gunman was an 18-year-old German-Iranian, whose motivations are still unknown, according to the local police.

The shooter opened fire outside a McDonald's and at the Olympia shopping centre across the street.

The police shot at him but he managed to run away. His body was found later, and the police confirmed he had killed himself.

Nine people were killed and 19 others are wounded, including three critically injured people.
