Peru shone at int'l traditional costume contest in China

14:13 | Beijing (China), Dec. 14.

Peru, represented by its Embassy in China and expat community in Beijing, ranked first at the 7th Wuzhou Cup Diplomat National Costume Competition held in the Asian Giant.

This year's edition saw the participation of delegations from 16 countries —led by their embassies— which showed off their national costumes to the rhythm of traditional music.

Peru's delegation was composed of 12 university students. They exhibited the most emblematic costumes from Andean zones such as Mantaro Valley (Junin region), Corongo (Ancash region), Cusco, and Puno, as well as the northern coast.

The Inca country's participation also included folk dances like Valicha, Huaylas, Diablada, and Marinera Norteña, among others.

Thus, Inca presence in this competition served to highlight Peruvian costumes' beauty and diversity, as well as to promote the Andean country's intangible cultural heritage in China.

It must be noted the second and third places were taken by Belarus and Russia, respectively, whose performances served to showcase Eastern Europe's classic and rural cultural heritage.
