Peru was selected to participate in China – Latin America and the Caribbean Media Exchange Center's first course, as part of Chinese President Xi Jinping's initiative to strengthen ties between his country and the region.
China's leader announced the creation of such center during an official visit to Peru last November.
The institution will be geared towards deepening China-Latin America media cooperation.
Following on said commitment, China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA) organized the first training course for Latin America and the Caribbean media professionals.
The Inca nation thus became one of the countries to join the ground-breaking initiative, along with Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico and Venezuela.
A unique opportunity
At the opening of the course, CPDA Vice President Hu Zhengyue highlighted the initiative offers participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge on international journalism.
Selected journalists will also gain insight into China's culture and politics, as well as invaluable 5-month experience living in Beijing.
Speaking on behalf of the 11 participants, Mexican daily Milenio co-editor Jorge Valdes affirmed the opportunity is both a privilege and major responsibility.
Likewise, he noted the resulting learning experience and mutual feedback will be of great benefit for both parties.
The program includes courses of Chinese language, as well as China's trade and economic policies.
In addition, participants will tour China's main cities and cover top events like the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, as well as the 9th BRICS Summit.
The opening ceremony also saw the presence of Chinese authorities and participating countries’ diplomatic representatives, including Peru's Ambassador to China Juan Carlos Capuñay.
The Peruvian diplomat underlined the invitation to El Peruano Official Gazette and Andina news agency is clear proof of China and Peru's optimal relationship.
