Some 1,300 kilograms of cocaine were seized by Peru's National Police and Public Ministry as result of a "mega-operation" carried out at Callao Port, National Anti-Drug Agency (Dirandro) Head Hector Loayza informed.
This intervention also led to the detention of 17 suspects.
Loayza explained that narcotics were camouflaged in several tubes found inside a container heading to Mexico for a supposed sanitation project.
The illegal merchandise was intended to be then smuggled into the United States or Europe by the Sinaloa Cartel.
Likewise, he noted the drug was previously "neutralized" so that it could not be detected by sniffer dogs.
The cargo was stored in a warehouse belonging to Exportaciones Neo company.
It must be noted 120 cops and 24 prosecutors participated in said bust.
