Peru’s Defense Minister, Pedro Cateriano, reassured head of Russia's Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, Alexander Fomin, of his commitment to finish the construction of La Joya helicopter manufacturing plant.

In this regard, the co-production of eleven Russian technology helicopters requested by Peru through a government-to-government deal will start in the first half of 2016 after the plant’s construction is complete.

In December, as part of the military-technical cooperation between the two nations, the Peruvian government signed a deal to purchase 24 MI-171 helicopters to strengthen its Air Force.

The said contract also implies a technological transfer and stipulates that a regional maintenance and repair center for helicopters will be opened in Peru by 2016.

Accompanying the Peruvian minister on his state visit to the Russian Federation were the Peruvian Ambassador to Russia, Gustavo Otero; the Peruvian Army Commander, Ronald Hurtado Jiménez; and Commader in Chief of Peruvian Army Aviation, Germán Gonzales Doimi.
