Peru and Russia signed Monday an agreement to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, during the official visit to Lima of the director of Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN), Victor Ivanov.
The cooperation protocol between the FSKN and Peruvian National Committee for Development and a Drug-Free Life (Devida) was signed by the head of the organism, Carmen Masias.
Ivanov explained this agreement will ensure Russian assistance to Peru on agents training to fight drug trafficking and technology exchange to strengthen security measures on roads and waterways.
Moreover, it also will enhance cooperation in the exchange of information relating to narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors, as well as in monitoring the situation of the said issue in both countries.
FSKN head highlighted the comprehensive nature of the anti-drug strategy implemented by Humala’s administration, due to it addresses the social aspect, without neglecting interdiction actions.
For her part, Carmen Masias, pointed out the close relationship between the Russian Federation and Peru, which will result in an improved collaboration by better coordination in the fight against drugs.
She noted President Ollanta Humala will receive Monday afternoon to the "Russian antidrug czar" in the Government Palace.
