Peru continues to improve its mining investment climate by climbing one spot to number seven on the world mining output raking, according to the latest index released by the Gerens consultancy firm. The report, titled "The Performance of World Mining Industry: 1992-2012", revealed that Peru accounted for 4.1% of global mine production last year, with an output worth more than US$ 2 billion.

"Copper, silver and gold were the most important products, as all together accounted for 83% of the Andean country's total production," said Rodrigo Priale, Gerens' general manager.

He noted that over the last 20 years the value of mineral production increased more than 12-fold, from US$ 2 billion in 1992 to US$ 27 billion in 2012, thus experiencing an average annual growth of 13 percent.
