The current Peruvian administration is working towards a buoyant market economy and social justice, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said on Friday during the closing of the Annual Conference of Executives (CADE) 2016 in Paracas (Ica region).

To this end, he affirmed government efforts are geared towards economic formalization, poverty reduction and basic services’ expansion.

Economic formalization

The top official also underlined the need for a “more formal country,” stressing that formalization will have “a huge impact” on the economy, liberating the country from its dependence on metal prices.

“Formalization will lead to a credit revolution in Peru, giving small enterprises access to credit, municipal savings banks and insurance […]. It will provide an internal growth engine; hence my emphasizing the subject,” he explained.

Ending corruption

Peru’s Commander-in-Chief also addressed the fight against corruption, and said the country needs reforms to tackle this major issue.

“We have an outdated Judicial Branch, with obsolete laws and duplicity of articles. If we are to build a modern country, we need to change this. We’ve seen it in Argentina and Brazil, which underwent major judicial reforms,” he said.

Basic services

On the other hand, the top official underscored basic services as a government priority to develop social justice.

In this sense, he mainly focused on drinking water supply, since “society will not be satisfied unless they have drinking water services at home.”

Tourism and mining

Likewise, the Head of State ratified Peru’s potential to double its tourist inflow. As is known, Mr. Kuczynski discussed tourism promotion and the implementation of direct China-Peru flights as part of his visit to the Asian Giant last September.

Finally, regarding mining, the President highlighted Peru’s position as one of the world’s top copper and zinc producers. However, the country needs actual social progress and shouldn’t simply wait for royalty revenue to come, he observed.
