Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday morning stressed the need to be ready for coming Andean frosts, sudden drops in temperature that affect highlands population every year.

Remarks were made from National Civil Defense Institute's (Indeci) headquarters in Callao, where the Head of State supervised the loading of blankets to be delivered to frost-prone central and southern regions.

The statesman also oversaw the transfer of humanitarian aid to disaster-stricken Piura region, currently facing the aftermath of downpours and floods triggered by "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon.

"We are working every day with the help of everyone, and of Peruvian volunteers, to address the situation," he affirmed.

"Frosts are not in full force yet, but we must be ready. There are 77,000 blankets [to be delivered] in 14 trucks," he added.

On the other hand, the 78-year-old announced his coming activities.

"We will open the Latin American Studies Association at Lima Art Museum [MALI] tonight, and we may be in Piura on Monday to begin fumigation works […]," he anticipated.

Peru's leader was joined by his wife Nancy Lange, as well as Prime Minister Fernando Zavala.

Mr. Kuczynski is now en route to Iquitos city (Loreto region), where he will participate in the 1st Meeting of Amazon Mayors.
