Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday toured the Vatican Apostolic Library, Saint Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel within the framework of his visit to the Holy See, where he held a private audience with His Holiness Pope Francis.
While in the Vatican Apostolic Library, the Head of State visited the private area containing the beatification archives of a number of Peruvian saints, including
Saint Rose of Lima. He also signed the golden guest book.
The Peruvian leader was then led to Saint Peter's Basilica, which houses the tomb of the late Pope John Paul II and the Pieta, Michelangelo's magnificent marble sculpture dating back to 1498-1499.
Lastly, the statesman proceeded to the Sistine Chapel, where he marveled at its stunning painted ceiling, also by the Italian Renaissance artist.
Mr. Kuczynski's wife Nancy Lange, as well as Peruvian Ministers Ricardo Luna (Foreign Affairs) and Alfonso Grados (Labor and Employment Promotion) joined the President on the occasion.
