19:00 | Huamanga (Ayacucho region), Dec. 9.

Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski today inspected works at Cabrapata water treatment plant in Huamanga province, Ayacucho region.

Recently unblocked by the Housing, Construction and Sanitation Ministry, the project is advanced 87% and expected to start operations by mid-2017.

The plant had remained halted due to contractor's malpractice and a complicated administrative system, the statesman explained.

In this sense, he said the plant is one of the 170 water projects his administration will work on nationwide.

The Head of State also praised efforts by Construction and Sanitation Minister Edmer Trujillo, who unblocked the plant. He went on to add the same is to be done with other ventures.

In this sense, Peru's leader announced he will visit 50 other such projects over the next three months, within the framework of Sierra Azul (meaning 'Blue Highlands'), a water seeding and harvesting program to fight droughts.

Cabrapata includes the implementation of drinking water, sewerage systems and wastewater treatment for Huascahura, Mollepata and adjacent localities.

Once operational, the system will benefit close to 12,000 locals.

At the site, Peru's President was joined by Ministers Jorge Nieto (Defense) and Agriculture (Jose Hernandez), as well as Construction and Sanitation Deputy-Minister Gustavo Olivas Aranda.
