President Ollanta Humala urged Congress on Friday to approve the bill aimed at reallocating a fund worth S/2.80 billion (about US$848 million) to regional and local administrations.

Mr. Humala indicated resources must arrive at regional and local governments "on time" with the aim of continuing developing ongoing projects nationwide.

"We request Congress not to hold back the approval of the bill we have sent for the transfer of S/2.80 billion to regions and municipalities [...]," the top official stated.

As is known, such fund comes from the proposal of reallocating unspent resources from El Niño climate phenomenon mitigation plan worth S/3.00 billion (about US$909 million).

As is known, only S/150 million (about US$45.45 million) was spent for the purpose.

Finance Minister Alonso Segura supported the pledge before Congress' Budget Commission on Thursday.

The Head of State made remarks during the inauguration ceremony for enhancement works on drinking water systems in Arequipa region's Camana province.

The project entails an investment worth S/79,129,934 (about US$23.98 million) and will benefit 72,550 inhabitants.
