Peru's National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (SENAMHI) projects downpours lashing the country to simmer down in coming weeks, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski affirmed on Monday.

"I've listened to SENAMHI's forecast. The idea is that this [abnormal precipitations] should be decreasing radically over the next two weeks, but there is always some uncertainty with these projections," Mr. Kuczynski told reporters.

The Head of State also reported Piura River flows in its riverbed, but overflows in the southern area of the city.

Regarding government efforts, he stressed State ministers deployed shall remain in their current (emergency) work areas: Alfonso Grados (Labor and Employment Promotion) in Tumbes region and Marilu Martens (Education) in Piura.

Similarly, Ministers Eduardo Ferreyros (Foreign Trade and Tourism) will stay in Lambayeque, Cayetana Aljovin (Development and Social Inclusion) in La Libertad and Maria Soledad Perez Tello (Justice and Human Rights) in Ancash.

"The five of them are in charge of [Peru's] northern areas," he said.

The statesman also reiterated post-disaster reconstruction works must follow high standards to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Lastly, he underlined public officials' duty to work for the country.

"We must devote ourselves to working. If we are in the government, it is to work," he pointed out.

Remarks were made after receiving the National Emergency Operations Center's (COEN) latest status update.
