According to Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Humala will also hold talks with Takahiro Yokomichi, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Parliament, when he visits the Asian country from May 8 to 10.

Humala's visit coincides with the recent entry into force of the Peru-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, a valuable tool for developing and promoting economic relations between the two nations.

The Peruvian leader is scheduled to participate in the Tenth Meeting of Japan-Peru Business Council (CEPEJA) and an investment promotion roadshow. He will be accompanied by a large delegation of Peruvian businessmen.

In a statement, the ministry said this visit will be an opportunity for both countries to agree on a reimbursable cooperation in energy infrastructure, water supply and sanitation programs worth US$258 million.

Peru and Japan will also discuss cooperation projects on prevention and mitigation of natural disasters, science and technology, college scholarships, oceanographic and Antarctic affairs, among other topics of interest to both countries.
