COP 21

COP 21

14:06 | Lima, Nov. 29.

On Monday COP21 will be officially inaugurated in Paris (France) and see the participation of Peru's President Ollanta Humala.

In 2015 COP21, also known as the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, will, for the first time in over 20 years of UN negotiations, aim to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C.

According to the schedule, the Leaders Event will be held on November 30 and will be attended by different presidents and heads of delegation including, among others, Ollanta Humala, who will be the first speaker — he is set to speak at noon.

As part of his journey, Mr. Humala will participate in the COP21 summit opening ceremony and will take an official photo with other heads of state and government attending the Leaders Event.

He is also due to open the Peru Pavilion at COP21 headquarters, where he will give a brief speech before attending the launch of a communiqué on inefficient fossil fuel subsidy reforms.

Later, at 13:00 (local time), Humala Tasso will attend a high-level event on forests and climate change and will take part in the photo to support the leaders’ declaration on that matter.

After that, he will join the official luncheon offered by French President François Hollande and Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius before joining a high-level event on resilience.

As part of his official agenda, Humala is expected to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and attend the inaugural ceremony of the Global Solar Alliance initiative.

Moreover, he will meet with Federica Mogherini, current High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

Humala will also head to Toulouse in southern France, where Airbus headquarters are located.

Airbus is in charge of the construction and effectiveness of the first-of-its-kind satellite to be operated by Peru, according to a deal signed with France in April, 2014.
