Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso made a call upon the population to defend the quality of social programs developed by his administration.

Likewise, the top official urged presidential candidates to commit to expanding such programs for the benefit of Peruvian citizens. 

"We must defend the social policy and the quality of social programs. We don’t develop social programs for poor people, but for citizens; thus, they deserve to receive quality services," he indicated. 

Mr. Humala said his social inclusion policy will serve as a legacy for the country and must remain in place during the next administration. 

The Peruvian leader also stressed the need for investment on education to reach 6% of the GDP once the new President takes office.

On the other hand, he stressed the intensification of measures aimed at preventing a Zika virus outbreak in the country. 

The Head of State attended on Thursday the inauguration ceremony of the concluded expansion and improvement works on "Valle El Triunfo" educational institution, located in Huarochiri province, Lima region. 

The said project entailed an investment worth S/.6,033,948 (about US$1.764 million) to benefit a total of 557 children.
