Following Monday's UN Paris Climate Change Conference (COP21) opening, Peru's President Ollanta Humala urged participants to take major cooperation actions for mitigation and adaptation purposes.

"It is necessary to increase actions taken aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate change," he underlined at a high-level event on resilience.

At the event, Mr. Humala indicated that his administration promoted cooperation —among States, local governments, private companies and social organizations— with the purpose of reducing climate change vulnerability.

At the same time, he reaffirmed his vows for COP21 to incorporate resilience as an essential component required to fulfill the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

"Climate change is a reality every nation must adapt to, especially developing countries, since the threat is increasing [...]," the President said.

Finally, the Head of State noted actions must be implemented to ensure water resources quality, increase food safety, reduce natural disaster risks and boost ocean resilience to climate change.

The Peruvian President participates at Paris COP21 designed to reach a binding agreement by adopting concrete measures to prevent the planet’s temperature from climbing above 2° Celsius degrees in the following years.

According to specialists, this climate issue could bring very serious consequences for the planet.
