Government-implemented policies and projects aimed at creating opportunities "are realities" that must continue under development to assure the country does not stop, President Ollanta Humala announced on Thursday.

"These realities can't be ignored or denied. Rather, I believe we must pledge to continue with corresponding implementations, so Peru won’t stop," the President told attendees.

He went on to highlight the social policy supported by programs "which never existed before" such as Pension 65, Cuna Mas and Qali Warma, as well as the gas massification initiative.

Qali Warma has assisted over 3.3 million initial and elementary school students from more than 60,000 Peruvian educational centers by providing them with breakfasts and lunch.

Developed by the Social Development and Inclusion Ministry, Cuna Mas aims at improving the development of children in areas of poverty and extreme poverty, to overcome the gaps in their cognitive, social, physical and emotional development.

Pension 65 provides a financial support of S/. 250 (about US$ 75.75) to elderly people across the country every two months in a bid to reduce their vulnerability and improve their quality of life.

However, the Head of State affirmed the country's major transformation process cannot be completed over a five-year period.

The Head of State made remarks during his participation in the inauguration of construction works of the new terminal of solid and liquid bulks and roll-on/roll-off cargo, which is the first stage of a modern multipurpose port and logistics complex in Chancay Port 80km to the north of Lima.
