Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski congratulated Colombian counterpart Juan Manuel Santos and the people of that country for the successful completion of FARC disarmament process.

Via Twitter, the Head of State recalled the Government and people of Peru have supported the peace process since the beginning.

"The weapons hand-over ceremony marks a significant step we recognize with deep satisfaction," reads his post.

The guerrilla handed over its arms in a symbolic ceremony held Tuesday in the town of Mesetas, south of Bogota, ending more than 50 years of conflict.

Commander-in-chief of Latin America's oldest guerrilla group Rodrigo Londoño Echeverri, alias Timochenko, completed the hand-over process.

"Goodbye weapons, goodbye war, welcome peace," said FARC's top leader to the crowd during the act.

As is known, the Government of Colombia signed a historic peace deal with FARC back in November 2017.
