Peru President pledges water and sewer improvements

14:13 | Tumbes (Tumbes region), Feb. 2.

Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday claimed he will work nonstop to resolve drinking water and sewer problems across the country "no matter what."

His remarks were made as he opened Heroes del Cenepa Bridge in Peru's northern Tumbes region

The statesman stressed the need to provide adequate water and sewer services all over Peru, particularly in northern areas hit by "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon early last year.

"We need water and sewer services to function well across Peru, mainly here in Tumbes. We are going to solve the water issue, no matter what, I don't care, we have to do it," he said, accompanied by Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz.

Likewise, he noted the importance of State-run Sedapal Waste Water Treatment Plant (PTAR) for sewerage.

For her part, Araoz affirmed the Government will continue to build bridges to strengthen interconnection all over the territory.

It must be noted the expansion of Heroes del Cenepa Bridge will benefit 240,000 inhabitants in Tumbes and Piura.

Its construction entailed an investment of more than S/5 million (about US$1.55 million).
