10:59 | Huamanga (Ayacucho region), Apr. 24.

Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Monday traveled to Southern Ayacucho region to transfer economic resources for higher education services.

Peru's top official handed over S/220 million (about US$67.82 million) to improve 25 State-run universities nationwide during a presentation ceremony at San Cristobal de Huamanga National University.

Resources will be used to upgrade services for students, such as cafeterias, dorms, social welfare and transport.

The sum will also serve to fund research projects, as well as libraries, laboratories and research equipment.

Said transfer adds to a previous delivery of S/90 million (about US$27.74 million) in 2016.

On the other hand, the statesman highlighted the role of public education in access to progress and thus reiterated his commitment to supporting State-run universities.

"We need to have good universities and access for all possible candidates […]," he pointed out.

Mr. Kuczynski was joined by Ministers Alfredo Thorne (Economy and Finance) and Marilu Martens (Education) on the occasion.
