Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Monday launched LATAM Airlines' service to Jauja city (Junin region), where he is to carry out a series of activities.

Speaking from Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport, the Head of State underlined the Lima-Jauja route will facilitate transport to and from Peru’s central highlands, thus increasing tourist flow to the region.

The new service will operate seven days a week on an Airbus 319 aircraft seating 144 passengers. The airline expects to serve 6,666 passengers a month and over 80,000 a year.

LATAM thus becomes the third airline to offer services to the Andean city, along with LC Peru and Peruvian Airlines.

First Vice-President Martin Vizcarra, as well as Ministers Bruno Giuffra (Transport and Communications), Marilu Martens (Education) and Eduardo Ferreyros (Foreign Trade and Tourism) joined Mr. Kuczynski at the launching ceremony.

Jauja agenda

In Jauja, the statesman will supervise renovation works —covering runway, aircraft platform and passenger terminal— at the local airport. Works are conducted by the Transport and Communications Ministry.

The 78-year-old leader will then inspect San Jose de Jauja school facilities, which were built with the support of the National School Infrastructure Program.

Afterwards, Mr. Kuczynski will overfly the Central Highway's Junin-La Oroya-Ticlio 380-km stretch to check on its conservation state, as well as the construction of alternative routes.

Such alternative ways are geared towards relieving traffic in this main road, which is key for the capital city's food supply and the transport of goods to and from the country's highlands and Amazonian regions.
