14:10 | Cocachacra (Arequipa region), Jan. 20.

Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday signed an agreement ratifying the government's commitment to guaranteeing water supply for Tambo Valley's agriculture and population.

"No water, no progress," said the Head of State as he signed the commitment in Cocachacra district (Southern Arequipa region).

The said document sets three specific goals: a dam; water supply for the valley's towns and communities; as well as ambulances and a hospital.

By returning to Cocachacra, one of the areas he had pledged support to while running for presidency, the statesman ticks another electoral promise off his list.

This morning, Peru's leader overflew the said valley to supervise the location selected to build a dam with a 100-million-m3 capacity.

"This dam will guarantee water supply all year long […]. We'll see if it is [built] in Paltiture, Huayrondo or Peña Negra," Mr. Kuczynski said.

"We will increase crop hectares by the thousands. That's in the document, and we will do it," he added.

Regarding health, he noted ambulances will benefit locals by cutting transfer times to 40 minutes.

"And if you need a hospital here, you will have one," he added.

Finally, the top official vowed to support Tambo's agriculture, health and education.

"It is the only way to move forward," he assured.
