Peru President: Gov't invested over US$9.00 billion in social infrastructure works

20:53 | Lima, Jun. 26.

Peru's President Ollanta Humala highlighted his administration has invested over S/30.00 billion (US$9.00 billion) in housing, construction and sanitation works for the benefit of needy people.

"We joined politics not more than 10 years ago. We have reached a such relevant position that allowed us to invest over S/30 billion [US$9.00 billion] in housing, construction and sanitation projects," he expressed during the inauguration ceremony of 11 infrastructure works in Lima's Huaycan population center.

"We are building infrastructure. We are paving Peru [...]," he said.

The Head of State reaffirmed his administration will continue working and inaugurating works "until the last minute" in office to meet goals and make Peruvian citizens' dreams come true.

As legacy, the administration will leave over 35 social programs to take care of the population most in need, he stressed.

"We request the next administration to strengthen and expand social programs," Mr. Humala added.

Education

The President also noted the nationalist government managed to invest over 4% of GDP in education; that is an amount above S/12.00 billion (about US$3.63 billion).

The Head of State went on to add educational reform —started during his time in office— allows citizens to obtain knowledge and thus contribute to development in the country.

"Let’s stop believing Peru will live its entire life from natural resource exploitation. Let’s stop saying Peru is merely a mining country. Peru must be a citizens' country," Mr. Humala expressed.

The leader inaugurated 11 infrastructure projects developed by the Housing, Construction and Sanitation Ministry thanks to an investment worth S/27.241 million (about US$8.254 million).

Projects comprise the construction of 156,233 m2 of roads and sidewalks aimed to benefit 33,421 residents.

As is known, Mr. Humala will leave office on July 28th.
