President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski expressed confidence in bringing major mining ventures forward, while highlighting the importance of clean and environmentally-responsible projects.

As is known, mining generates revenue and accounts for half of Peru's exports.

"I’m hopeful we will eventually manage to bring all projects forward, even if some cannot be developed right now due to global demand," Mr. Kuczynski told reporters waiting outside his residence in Lima’s San Isidro district.

The Head of State said he had met with the heads of major global copper mining companies, who expect copper and zinc to be leading metals for the next 10-15 years.

"We own the best zinc reserves worldwide and the second best in copper. I have no doubt we will move forward," he added.

Mr. Kuczynski also referred to important projects such as El Galeno, Michikillay and La Granja in the north; and Zafranal, Los Chancas and Tia Maria in the south.

"There is no "one-size-fits-all" authorization [for mining ventures], so we need to work on these projects one at a time," explained the Head of State.

Remarks were made following a meeting with former President Alan Garcia, with whom Peru's top official had lunch on Monday.
