Peru President commemorates Peruvian Navy and Battle of Angamos Anniversaries

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala attended the commemoration ceremony marking the 136th anniversary of the Naval Battle of Angamos and the 194th anniversary of the Peruvian Navy at the Plaza Grau square located in Callao.

The President was joined by Minister of Defense Jakke Valakivi; Congress Chairman Luis Iberico and the Peruvian Navy General Commander Edmundo Deville del Campo; among other civil and military authorities.

The heroic battle held in 1879 was led by Miguel Grau Seminario, also known as "Knight of the Seas," who was honored on Thursday during the patriotic ceremony. 

The activities began with a minute of silence in memory of national hero Grau Seminario, who died defending our country on October 8, 1879.

Diplomatic officials, Callao institutions authorities, patriotic and cultural entities placed floral offerings at the monument. 

The solemn ceremony concluded with the annual parade, which gathered delegations of Peruvian Navy, Army, Air Force and National Police.
