The peace deal signing between Colombia's government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) counts on Latin America's strong support, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said today.

In this sense, the Head of State highlighted the presence of region's Presidents, convened on Colombian soil to attend such historic ceremony.

"I see great support from Latin America. Most of the region's Presidents are here. Brazil's [President] is the one that's missing and must be attending urgent tasks. However, his Foreign Affairs Minister is here [...]. Raul Castro, Michelle Bachelet, Argentina's [President] and myself are here. It is a considerable group," he affirmed.

Mr. Kuczynski also referred to Colombians who oppose the agreement claiming conditions for FARC rebels to re-integrate society are unfair and not hard enough.

He noted a referendum will be held in a few days and, according to polls, the majority favors peace.

"I think peace is already a fact," he told RPP radio and TV news station.

Mr. Kuczynski observed the next step is peace implementation. Considering FARC members have made their living on drug-trafficking, a mechanism should be established for them to abandon said business in search for legal activities.

When consulted on government measures in response to possible FARC breakaways escaping to Peru, the top official said intelligence works are in place.

"Surveillance is in place to learn if the number is considerable or not. Intelligence works are underway. We will undoubtedly address the issue at our binational cabinet meeting with Colombia, taking place in the city of Arequipa in a few weeks," he pointed out.
