Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Monday affirmed Chinchero International Airport project in southern Cusco region will go on.

Remarks came following former Transport and Communications Minister Martin Vizcarra's resignation this morning.

"The airport will move forward. Undoubtedly, there will be adjustments in the wake of Congress' observations, as well as the report to be submitted by the Comptroller General's Office," he said.

"We are a single force. We think about Peru, about all the infrastructure needs we have: drinking water, housing, airports, roads, bridges and ports. And we will move forward in all of this," he added.

The top official also stressed the venture is a "decades-long dream" of Cusco region citizens.

As for Vizcarra, the statesman praised his "dedicated work" leading the Transport and Communications Ministry, and expressed his appreciation for the time he served as Cabinet member.

"You have done a great job amidst the landslides and the planning of new roads, ports and airports," he told the former minister.

Likewise, he noted Vizcarra will now be fully dedicated to his role as First Vice-President.

"Now he will have more time to help me with the issue of regions. Peru is the sum of its regions; we must support and work on them and I know Martin [Vizcarra] will help me [do that]," he concluded.

Vizcarra's resignation as Transport and Communications Minister came after questionings regarding the said project.
