Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Wednesday called on Latin American nations to guarantee the continuity of democracy, as well as the upholding of institutional character.

Remarks were made prior to Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno's inauguration ceremony at the National Assembly headquarters.

Peru's Head of State also stressed Latin American countries must scale up support for Venezuela through humanitarian actions.

The statesman attended the inaugural event joined by Foreign Affairs Minister Ricardo Luna and Peruvian Ambassador to Ecuador Hugo Otero.

Following the ceremony, Mr. Kuczynski participates in a luncheon offered by President Moreno at Itchimbia's Crystal Palace.

Mr. Moreno won April's presidential election in his homeland after defeating opponent Guillermo Lasso in the runoff. He thus succeeds Rafael Correa.

Regional integration

President Kuczynski arrived in the Ecuadorian capital last night feeling certain his visit would help reinforce bilateral relations uniting both nations, as well as regional integration.

"There will be an opportunity to talk to other Heads of State: The Presidents of Argentina, Colombia, Chile and many others," he affirmed.

"In Peru, we have a good-neighbor policy with all countries, and we are working hard on that," he added.

Also on Tuesday night, the 78-year-old leader was awarded the keys to the city of Quito.

He was also declared illustrious guest of Ecuador's capital by its Mayor Mauricio Rodas.

"Expressing our gratitude for such a great honor —[Ecuador] is a friendly country of Peru, a sister city of Lima— strengthening our relations with another Andean, Amazon, Pacific country is essential," he said at the time.
