Peru President arrives in Piura to deliver aid

Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Sunday traveled to northern Piura region and delivered 70 tons of aid for people affected by heavy rains and landslides.

As is known, the Inca nation has been at the mercy of several landslides over recent weeks, as result of downpours overflowing rivers in different regions.

"We are traveling to Piura to see how we can help in this terrible situation caused by floods," said Mr. Kuczynski before departing from Air Group 8 Military Complex in Callao. 

Upon arrival in the northern city, Peru's top official was welcomed by Governor Reynaldo Hilbck and other local authorities. 

At local Miguel Grau Stadium, the 78-year-old handed over humanitarian aid to people affected by the onslaughts of nature.

The aid consisted of tents, steel sheetings, tools, mattresses, blankets, garments, buckets and water cans, among others. 

Likewise, the leader ordered National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) personnel to remain in said region and continue assisting affected citizens.

Furthermore, the economist urged the population to wash their hands to prevent cholera and dengue fever.

He also committed to fixing water supply issues hitting the region.

Later, Mr. Kuczynski and his entourage went to the city of Sullana, in order to monitor water and drainage systems in the area. 

The Head of State was joined by Prime Minister Fernando Zavala, as well as Ministers Cayetana Aljovin (Development and Social Inclusion) and Marisol Perez Tello (Justice and Human Rights).
