The current administration has planned to invest over S/.8.5 billion (about US$2.54 billion) in health infrastructure to enhance sector-related services in the country, Peru’s President Ollanta Humala affirmed.
After inaugurating Nuestra Señora de Las Mercedes hospital located in the Northern city of Paita, the Head of State said S/.5.50 billion (about US$1.64 billion) has been invested in 130 medical centers, including new buildings and improvement works on already-existing ones.
"By mid-2016, we expect to add 50 more, and thus reach the goal set at S/.8.5 billion (about US$2.54 billion)," the President said.
The official went on to add over S/.3.00 billion (about US$890 million) has been invested in prevention measures aimed to mitigate El Niño climate phenomenon's impacts.
It entailed modular bridges placement, a logistic vessel capable of providing energy, as well as water purification plants.
Hospital
The Head of State affirmed the project is the result of coordinated efforts undertaken by the central government along with regional and local authorities.
Mr. Humala also made vows for these projects to continue not only in Piura, but also in other Peruvian jurisdictions.
He also underlined social programs considering these are the people’s "social conquest," which must not be eliminated by upcoming administrations.
