Peru: PM sworn in as new Finance Minister

Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday morning administered the oath to Prime Minister Fernando Zavala, who will concurrently serve as new Economy and Finance Minister.

As is known, Zavala has been presiding over the Council of Ministers since July, 2016.

Led by the Head of State, the ceremony took place at Lima-based Government Palace's Golden Hall.

The event also saw the presence of Second Vice-President Mercedes Araoz and cabinet members.

As is known, former Minister Alfredo Thorne resigned from the Economy and Finance portfolio last Wednesday.

Bio

Fernando Martin Zavala Lombardi is an economist graduated from Universidad del Pacifico in Lima.

The 46-year-old holds Master's Degrees from Universidad de Piura (Peru) and University of Birmingham (England).

He served as General Manager at National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Intellectual Property (Indecopi).

He was later appointed Minister of Economy and Finance for the 2005-2006 period.

Concerning the private sector, he served as SABMiller CEO based in Panama, as well as Backus CEO in Lima, Peru.
