'Rendering accounts' is a positive sign if Peru aims to become a modern country, Peruvian Prime Minister Fernando Zavala affirmed.

Remarks referred to the government's overview of the first 100 days in office, presented in a press conference by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Wednesday.

The Cabinet Chief highlighted the importance of reporting back to citizens directly by launching the website yaempezamos.com (meaning 'we have already started'): a web portal that presents progress made by the government in different sectors to the general population.

"Rendering accounts is a good sign if we want to become a modern country [...]. This government wants to do so by improving management for citizens," he told RPP radio and TV news station.

Zavala stressed the current administration encountered various small and medium-scale halted projects upon taking office. The issue also affected larger projects such as San Martin port in Pisco (Ica region), which remained blocked for two years.

In this respect, he explained said blocking was caused by lack of agreement in certain conditions between the Production and Finance Ministries following the concession agreement.

"Concerning this sense, we've managed to get public institutions to work together. We cannot allow US$191 million to stay halted and unexecuted for two years," the Minister remarked.

Thus, State Ministries took the lead in unblocking projects from the beginning of the current administration, he said.
