The Congressional approval of bills related to political reform is the result of the national dialogue meeting convened by the government, noted today Peru’s Prime Minister Ana Jara Velasquez.
On her official twitter account, Jara explained that political organizations present at the meeting, held last Tuesday, had 102 representatives in Congress, who contributed to the approval of the bills.
The President of the Council of Ministers also highlighted the approval, in the Congress, of the revised text of the Law on Rights to Citizen Participation and Control, which increases the requirements for holding a recall referendum.
In addition to this law, the Congress agreed to prohibit the immediate re-election of mayors and regional presidents, who will be renamed as “regional governors” once the regulation enters into force.
