Peru PM leads information session on natural disaster-stricken areas

Peru's Prime Minister Fernando Zavala on Monday presided over the National Emergency Operations Center-COEN's information session to address the current situation of Peruvian regions hit by natural disaster.

As is known, the Inca nation has been at the mercy of heavy rains, landslides and floods over recent weeks.

In this sense, Zavala assured affected citizens from 173 cities will have access to temporary jobs through Trabaja Peru (Work, Peru) program.

Trabaja Peru is a social program designed to generate jobs and promote the development of infrastructure projects in areas hit by disaster.

In addition, the minister underlined the government will allocate S/40 million (around US$12.3 million) to continue with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of areas affected by the onslaughts of nature.

Furthermore, the cabinet chief announced ministers will arrive in various towns this week to continue the articulated works with regional governments. 

Lastly, the portfolios and scientific institutions disclosed the actions undertaken to assist people in need.

Held at Defense Ministry's headquarters, the session featured Ministers Jorge Nieto (Defense), Martin Vizcarra (Transport and Communications), Patricia Garcia (Health), Gonzalo Tamayo (Energy and Mines), Alfonso Grados (Labor and Employment), Marilu Martens (Education), Carlos Basombrio (Interior) and Elsa Galarza (Environment). 

Likewise, high-ranking officials were joined by Armed Forces Joint Command Chief Admiral Jose Paredes Lora, who addressed the measures taken so far by the military institution.

The gathering also saw the presence of officials from the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (SENAMHI), Peru's Geophysical Institute (IGP), National Water Authority (ANA), Peru's Maritime Institute (Imarpe) and the National Center for Estimation, Prevention and Disaster Risk Reduction (Cenepred).
