The Kuczynski administration has a very proactive attitude towards human rights, said Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz during a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein on Monday.

Within this framework, Araoz reiterated the Executive Power's strong commitment to human rights protection and promotion in Peru.

"Human rights are the main axis in the development of our people. In this case, there would be no chance to think about sustainable human development, if there were no protection and promotion of human rights in our nation," she stated.

The Cabinet head also underscored that the Executive Branch had insisted on engaging in dialogue, so the topic will always remain on its agenda, from a broad and particular perspective.

At another time, the also Second Vice-President underlined that women's rights are a "number one priority" to the administration.

"The commitment is to have human rights on our agenda, rely on the National Action Plan for Human Rights […]. Rights play a fundamental role in our policies," she pointed out in this sense.

The working meeting with Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein was held at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers headquarters in Lima.

As is known, Peru was elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council after the vote by the 193-member General Assembly last week.
