Peru's Labor and Employment Promotion Ministry committed to reinforce policies and programs so as to reduce labor disparities between men and women, Deputy Labor Minister Augusto Eguiguren informed Friday.

The Declaration of Bridgetown —signed by Peru during the XX Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Barbados— also contains an agreement to eradicate discrimination, harassment, and violence based on gender or sexual orientation.

Therefore, the document finds it necessary to promote quality, inclusive education and training to unleash youth potential and respond to the new challenges of the world of work.

On the other hand, the ministers and heads of delegations present at the conference agreed to strengthen workers' skills certification systems that can be recognized locally, regionally and internationally.

Additionally, they committed to strengthen systems of labor inspection and administration, ensuring independence and professionalism in operations.

The Peruvian delegation consisted of Deputy Labor Minister Augusto Eguiguren and Labor Director-General Juan Carlos Gutierrez.

The Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor is held every two years to review the labor situation and progress achieved in that field by the member states, as well as to make recommendations to increase employment opportunities.
