Citizens from areas worst hit by Piura River's overflow in northern Piura region, are being evacuated by Army and National Police agents.
Officers have also sealed off flooded areas to protect the population.
The city was declared under red alert as the river dangerously rose, breaching its banks and reaching bridge levels in certain zones. Strong currents continue to lash
the already-stricken city.
Flood waters have not only invaded Piura's Main Square, but also its main ways.
Piura River flow has just exceeded 3,100 m/s, the Regional Emergency Operation Center (COER) reported.
