Peru's Pisco production reached set a 9.5 million liter record in 2015, Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises and Industry Deputy Minister Carlos Carrillo announced.

According to the official, the achievement was possible thanks to efforts undertaken at the Agro-industry's Technological Innovation Centers (Cite) and the National Pisco Commission (Conapisco).

"Last December, we have reached a production of 9.5 million liters, and thus set an historical record [...]," he indicated.

Carrillo —who also serves as Conapisco Chairman— said the beverage production experienced an accumulated growth of 34% in the period comprised between 2011 and 2015.

Exports

Currently, exports are shipped to three new countries: Australia, Netherlands and Brazil.

"In 2015, Peru reached out to three new markets; they are Australia, Netherlands and Brazil [...]. Besides, Pisco exports to traditional markets United States and Chile have increased," Carrillo explained.

It must be noted the national drink is being sold to nearly ten foreign countries to date.

Internal and external consumption

On the other hand, he stressed Pisco's domestic "consumption is increasing" nowadays. The demand is linked to production growth achieved over recent years.

"Due to the current gastronomic boom, Pisco is poured at [Peruvian] Embassies around the world," the Deputy Minister affirmed.

On Saturday, Pisco Sour Day will be celebrated across the country.
