15:53 | Paracas (Ica region), Apr. 17.

Hotels and other tourism services in Paracas' beach area may have generated some US$3 million during Holy-Week holidays in 2017, the city's Tourism and Foreign Trade Chamber President Eduardo Jauregui projected.

The result would lead to a 5% increase over the same period last year, Jauregui told Andina news agency.

Likewise, the officer highlighted restaurant sales may have increased 250% on April 13-16.

"People usually make reservations for the three nights of Holy Week. However, the inflow of tourists has been massive every single day," he underscored.

He added Paracas hotels' 3,000 rooms were fully booked on Good Friday, when the highest peak of tourists (60,000 people) was registered.

Visitors enjoyed local weather, delicious food and beautiful beaches, as well as tours around Ballestas Islands and Paracas National Reserve.

Paracas National Reserve

Paracas Reserve is a privileged place on the Peruvian coast for nature tourism, since it hosts a great biological diversity, especially marine-coastal species.

The area is home to nearly 216 species of birds, 36 of mammals, 10 of reptiles, 168 of fish and a large number of invertebrates, which are at the bottom of the trophic chain in this important place.

Vegetation is scarce in this paradisiacal location, but a few coastal hills can be seen on top of the mountains, which serve as habitats for various reptiles, insects, birds and some mammals.

Paracas National Reserve is situated at km 245 of the Panamericana Sur Highway, and can be reached in approximately four hours by car.
