Peru: Paracas to make at least US$3 million during Dakar Rally 2018

The Dakar Rally 2018 will generate more than US$3 million in revenue for Paracas beach area, the city's Tourism and Foreign Trade Chamber (Capatur) projected.

As is known, the Andean country has been chosen as the starting point of the world's hardest and most grueling race. 

The last Peru time was part of the off-road competition (2013), Paracas saw an income of around US$2 million, Capatur President Eduardo Jauregui said.

"Expectations are greater now and trade is expected to reach US$3 million," he highlighted. 

The Capatur officer noted Paracas will once again be included in the race's official route. Thus, the city is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors, including competitors, technical teams, journalists and fans. 

In this sense, Dakar 2018 will have a positive impact on hotel investments, tourism services, as well as boost the city's economy.

The 40th edition is scheduled to run from January 6 to 20, 2018. The route will begin in the Inca nation, passing through La Paz (Bolivia) until Cordoba (Argentina). 

It will comprise 14 stages to be raced against the clock. Registration begins on May 15.

The Dakar Rally 2018 will host 750 competitors, among them 40 Peruvian representatives.
