There are more than 40 Peruvian restaurants operating under franchise arrangements in Brazil, Peru’s Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) informed based on data provided by its Commercial Office in Sao Paulo (Ocex Sao Paulo).
Mincetur’s head Eduardo Ferreyros said the South American giant is a market whose food franchises generate about US$8 billion in annual revenues.
Such places serve Peru’s most popular delicacies such as ceviche, lomo saltado, papa a la huancaina, among others.
Peruvian eateries have popped up in several States across the country, including Acre, Alagoas, Bahia, Brasilia, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Parana, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Sergipe and Sao Paulo.
With a huge amount of potential consumers (over 200 million), Brazil provides a unique opportunity for the already-established restaurants to broaden the horizons of such varied cuisine.
Peruvian culinary businessmen expressed interest in franchising their restaurants in a video conference organized by Ocex Sao Paulo and Peru’s Exporters Association (Adex).
The necessary actions will be taken to enable businesses join the "Support Program for Internationalization" promoted by Mincetur and Promperu.
