Tourist activity in the Inca Trail Network belonging to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu develops as usual, State-run National Service of Natural Protected Areas (Sernanp) affirmed.
In a release, the institution dismisses false announcements of an alleged closing of the famous trek due to torrential rains recorded in different Peruvian regions.
While a 20-meter stretch of the Trail —Route 5— was affected by a landslide over the weekend, an alternate route was opened from km 106 of the railway line to Wiñaywayna and Machu Picchu.
Thus, Sernanp recommends that tourism and travel agencies, tour guides, support staff and visitors take corresponding precautions.
