Thanks to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement's entry into force, Peru's non-traditional exports would increase by 25% in the short-term, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva highlighted on Thursday.

"Peru relies on greater benefits for three sectors, such as those related to food, alpaca textiles and fishery products. Our non-traditional exports would increase by 25%," she indicated.

By signing the TPP, the South American country managed to establish five new FTAs with Australia, Vietnam, New Zealand, Malaysia and Brunei.

SMEs

For the first time, TPP contains a specific chapter on small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that will enable such companies to promote their products and integrate them into global trade.

China

On the other hand, Silva explained that the said covenant will not affect existing ties with China, since the Asian Giant is one of the world's nations that maintains a strategic relation with Peru.

"China is one of the most important investors in Peru, as reflected in major mining projects such as Toromocho and Las Bambas [...]. Besides, it represents an extraordinary market for our agro-exports," she stressed.
