In spite of natural disasters, Peru's non-primary Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanded 1.3% in March 2017, the country's Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported.
As is known, the Andean country was recently at the mercy of "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon characterized by heavy rains, landslides and floods. They destroyed infrastructure and crops, as well as left many citizens homeless.
In the analyzed period, growth was mainly underpinned by the recovery of some manufacturing branches.
Likewise, the rise was boosted by the services sector's growth.
Primary sectors
On the other hand, primary activity dropped 1.3%, mainly due to the decrease in the mining sector (-2.7%).
However, fishery activity grew 37.3% thanks to the greater catches of anchovy.
First quarter
Lastly, the BCR noted Peruvian GDP increased 2.1% in 2017's first quarter.
Positive results were partly driven by the good performance of national exports.
